Project-Based Learning (PBL)

What is Project-Based Learning (PBL)?

At PS 182Q, students learn by doing.

In Project-Based Learning (PBL), students work on real-world projects that help them understand big ideas in school and in life. They explore important questions, do hands-on research, and then create something meaningful to share what they’ve learned.

Each student chooses how to present their learning in a way that feels right for them. This could be a:

  • Poster
  • Song or rap
  • Presentation
  • Story or article
  • Video or digital design
  • Podcast, newscast or more!

Every project at PS 182Q is designed to support our magnet theme of Discovery and Applied Learning. That means students:

  • Discover something new about the world, about others, or about themselves
  • Apply their learning to make their lives, their school, their community, or the world a better place

As students grow, so do their projects:

In 3K, Pre-K, and Kindergarten, students focus on learning about themselves and how to be kind, helpful, and responsible.

In the older grades, students take on bigger challenges to make their community and world better

PBL helps children build confidence, practice communication skills, and see that they have the power to make a difference starting right now!
