“No matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment.”

- Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success

We use Investigations in Number, Data, and Space by TERC as our curricular resource along with additional investigations and tasks from Context for Learning. Math Workshops are usually hour-long blocks. In addition, classrooms have a 15 minute time built into the daily schedule for mental math routines which include quick images, number strings and other routines that support mathematical reasoning, estimation and numeracy skills.

We believe that students should explore big mathematical ideas in rich contexts that support and challenge their thinking.

We believe that students have multiple ways to approach problem solving and to represent their thinking. We also believe that students are able to construct different strategies that become more sophisticated over time.

Math is not about speed and fact recall but a process in which students analyze numbers and situations, notice patterns, make conjectures, and evaluate their solutions.

We value collaboration, discussion, debate and self-reflection.

We encourage students to construct arguments and actively debate the validity of their theories.
